The Wilds Vendor Show


In January, we do bridal shows.  This has been a fact of life for the First Class Catering team for the past 9 years.  We spend the first three weeks of January frantically planning booth displays, updating menus, and polishing display glassware while still recovering from our December rush. It’s a hectic time, but a time for us to reevaluate ourselves – and decide the best way to sell ourselves to the newest batch of engaged couples looking for vendors they can trust.


2020 brought no December rush, and our usual January bridal show schedule sits in limbo somewhere between postponements and cancellations. However, through this haze, one of our favorite vendor partners may have very well revolutionized the bridal show market in Indiana. 


This past Sunday, we spent the day at The Wilds Wedding Venue in Bloomington, Indiana.  It is one of our absolute favorite places to work. We have been a partner at the Wilds since their very first wedding (and before) and their owner, Alison, actually found us at The Bloomington Bridal Show in 2017.  Since that day, we have worked side by side at several shows, lamenting how one can weed out qualified perspective clients in such a mad dash of free samples and giveaways.  This year, she invited us to participate in a vendor open house at The Wilds. We would have a small booth, along with many other incredible wedding vendors, in a show open only to brides who have booked their weddings in the space.  No more talking to brides for 5 minutes only to find out they’re booked in a venue with an exclusive catering partnership.  No more mad dash of people who are ‘considering getting engaged soon,’ but a room full of qualified perspective clients who can book our services. 


This level of possibility combined with more time on our hands than usual led us to craft a brand new booth display centered around a new presentation style we’ll be debuting soon.  Three trips to Lowe’s, an abundance of copper spray paint, and a scratched cornea later, our structure was built.  After that, all it took was a call to For The Beauty Floral, a new favorite of ours in the industry who was also displaying at The Wilds, to make it beautiful and some food to match.  We had an incredible day meeting new clients, and have appointments set up for consultations and tastings for the next few weeks. 


It was an incredible rush to get to do our jobs again.  To meet new clients, learn what they’re looking for to make their day special, and help guide them on that path to their perfect day.  We hope 2021 will bring more of this soon.
